COMPUTING SETTINGS FOR THE PRACTICAL TUTORIALS

Tuesday afternoon tutorials
On Tuesday afternoon we will have practical tutorials on data management and containers.
Tutorial on Containers
The tutorial requires the usage of Linux as an Operating System. For those running on MacOS we recommend installing a Linux emulator (QEMU or Virtual Box). Alternatively you should be able to login to an account in a user interface Linux machine of the ones you have generally access to.
Tutorial on tools for Data Analytics
DESY will kindly provide access to the Cloud facilities of the Helmholtz Federation HIFIS. To enable such service you need to provide your google/github or ORCID ID (email) to patrick.fuhrmann@desy.de. In return, you will receive an invitation to the Helmholtz Federation AAI. We would ask you to follow the link in the invitation email and accept the terms and conditions to get access to the DESY Jupyter services.

Wednesday tutorials on GPU usage for LQCD
The GPUs tutorial by Antonio Rago will be complemented by practical exercises that you can do on your own during the tutorial or a posteriori. For this the Supercomputing Center of Galicia - CESGA kindly offers access to the HPC system Finisterrae-3.
https://cesga-docs.gitlab.io/ft3-user-guide/overview.html
Access will be granted to all the participants for the whole week. Details on the login credentials will be provided during the Logistics information session Monday morning.
Accessing CESGA from Benasque requires the use of a VPN. The instructions to install a VPN using Fortinet software can be found here (MacOS, Linux and Windows):
https://cesga-docs.gitlab.io/ft3-user-guide/how_to_connect.html
We recommend you to install the VPN software ASAP, so you do not waste time during the lectures.
A SLURM reservation called "lattice" for nodes with A100 GPUs has been created. You need to add the option "--reservation lattice" when submitting the jobs. More details about the machine Finisterrae-3 itself and instructions for job submission can be found at:
https://cesga-docs.gitlab.io/ft3-user-guide/index.html and more in particular instructions for the GPU nodes: https://cesga-docs.gitlab.io/ft3-user-guide/gpu_nodes.html
More specific instructions matching the content of the exercises will be provided on Wednesday by Antonio.
